Annual leave accrual starts at 10 hours per month for less than 5 years of service, increasing to 20 hours per month after 23 years of service. Members may carry over up to 400 hours of unused annual leave; excess leave is paid out at the daily rate. Sick leave is uncapped and managed under a wellness framework with ongoing joint reviews. Designated paid holidays include 12 days such as New Year's Day, Good Friday, Canada Day, Labour Day, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Remembrance Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and others recognized provincially or nationally. Family-related leave includes up to 40 hours per fiscal year for medical appointments, care, school functions, and legal appointments. Compassionate leave allows up to 80 hours to visit critically ill family members and 40 hours for travel for treatment. Bereavement leave includes paid leave covering the memorial day and up to 3 days travel, with provisions for extended leave up to 7 calendar days. Wellness days provide 8 hours paid leave annually for personal reasons. Maternity leave without pay is up to 18 weeks, with extensions for newborn hospitalization, and includes a maternity allowance supplementing Employment Insurance benefits up to 93% of weekly pay. Parental leave without pay offers up to 37 or 63 weeks (standard or extended options) with corresponding parental allowances supplementing EI benefits. Leave without pay provisions cover compassionate care, family care, personal needs, spouse relocation, education (up to 5 years), and other discretionary reasons, with conditions on service credit and operational requirements. Part-time members receive pro-rated benefits. Reservists receive 4.6% in lieu of annual leave and holidays, with overtime paid after 40 hours per week at 1.5 times the rate, but no lieu time off entitlement.

compensation Summary

Salaries are specified by rank and step with scheduled increases: effective April 1, 2023, a 3.00% economic increase plus 1.00% market adjustment (total 4.03%), and effective April 1, 2024, an additional 2.00% economic increase plus 2.00% market adjustment (total compounded 8.233% from April 1, 2022 rates). For example, a Constable's annual salary ranges from $65,776 (Step 1, 2022) to $115,350 (Step 5, 2024 with market adjustment). Pay increments occur annually based on service and performance. Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate for hours worked beyond scheduled hours, during time off, or on designated paid holidays; double time applies for overtime on regular time off or when recalled from leave without reinstatement of leave. Callback pay guarantees a minimum of 3 hours at applicable rates when called back to work off-duty. Shift premiums of $2.00 per hour apply for hours worked between 16:01 and 08:00. Operational readiness and availability are compensated at straight-time rates prorated per hours designated. Members may elect lieu time off (LTO) in place of overtime pay, with maximum accruals of 80 hours. Acting pay applies when temporarily appointed to higher ranks after qualifying periods, paid at the higher classification rate.
