compensation Summary
- Wages are based on a consolidated day rate, which includes basic pay for a 12-hour day, overtime allowance, leave pay, sick leave, statutory holidays, travel, and vacation pay at 6% (or 8% for Tier 2).
- Overtime is paid for hours worked in excess of 12 per day at the overtime rate specified in Appendix B ($46.46–$47.60/hour for Lead Seaperson, depending on tier).
- Regular day rate for Lead Seaperson: $259.32–$265.66; Consolidated day rate: $518.64–$531.32; Basic annual salary: $94,651.14–$96,965.43.
- Annual wage adjustments are the greater of the average wage increase for similar unlicensed personnel, the CPI for Newfoundland and Labrador, or 2%.
- Shorthand payment: If the vessel operates with fewer crew than required, the wages for missing crew are divided among remaining members performing extra work.
- Education bonus: $1,000 for completion of Watchkeeping/Fourth Class Motor Certificate after one year of service post-certification.
